Every registered user can use the Library services, according to the rules.
Sapienza students can access catalogue's online services using their Infostud credentials.
Students, academic, technical-administrative staff and equivalent are institutional users.
All categories not included in the previous list are external users.
- Reading at the library
Consultation
Users can consult the materials held by the Library within the Library premises.
Consultation in the "Periodicals and Reserved Collections" room is available for all materials that are not eligible for loan.
All users may request consultation, with a maximum of two volumes at a time; materials available on open shelves are not counted towards this limit.
For antique, valuable, or fragile materials, designated consultation spaces are provided near the staff desks, and users must follow the guidelines given by the staff.
Consultation of the "Piacentini" and "Minnucci" collections, other particularly valuable or rare works, and archival collections is allowed only with prior authorization from the Director.
If thematerials have been digitized, access to the original is permitted only for specific research needs.
- Loan
Local Loan Service
The local loan service allows users to borrow materials from the Library for use outside the reading rooms for a specified number of days. Loans are personal and non-transferable and are available to all users upon request. The service conditions vary depending on the user's category, as follows:
Institutional Users
Quantity: Up to 3 volumes
Loan Duration: 15 calendar days (including the day of checkout, Saturdays, and Sundays)
Renewals: Up to two renewals of 7 days each, provided there are no reservations by other users. Renewal is possible within the 3 days preceding the due date.
External Users
Quantity: Up to 2 volumes
Loan Duration: 8 calendar days (including the day of checkout, Saturdays, and Sundays)
Renewals: One renewal of 7 days, provided there are no reservations by other users. Renewal is possible within the 3 days preceding the due date.
If the due date falls on a public holiday or a Library closure day, the loan is automatically extended to the next Library opening day.
For volumes that are currently on loan, users can place a reservation. Once the document is returned, the requesting user will be notified and will have 2 days to collect the volume from the Library. After this period, the book will be made available for loan to other users.
For documents that are not eligible for loan according to Library regulations, users may request alternative forms of access for specific research needs, subject to the Director’s discretion.
Loan Restrictions
Loans are generally available for all library materials published after 1950, with the following exceptions:
Periodicals and collected works, whether bound or loose issues
General and specialized reference works (dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, atlases)
Rare and valuable works
Special and restricted collections
Materials in fragile condition
Bachelor's and doctoral theses
Non-book materials
Loan requests must be submitted through the online catalog.
- Inter Library Loan - ILL
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service
The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service facilitates the exchange of original documents between libraries, strictly for personal use and study purposes.
This service is available exclusively between libraries.
Users can access the service through the Library and must comply with the lending library’s regulations regarding loan duration, usage conditions, and any applicable fees.
The Library provides the service both outgoing (as a lending library for users of other libraries) and incoming (as a requesting library on behalf of its users).
- Document Delivery – DD
Document Delivery (DD) Service
The Document Delivery (DD) service provides copies of parts of documents, typically journal articles or book chapters, strictly for personal use and study purposes.
This service is available exclusively between libraries.
Users can access the service through the Library and must comply with the supplying library’s regulations regarding processing times, usage conditions, and any applicable fees.
The service is provided within the limits of current copyright regulations.
- Reference
Bibliographic Information and Research Assistance Service
The Bibliographic Information and Research Assistance Service aims to meet users' informational and knowledge needs.
The Library provides guidance on the organization, access, and evaluation of available information resources, as well as assistance in retrieving information and documents. Additionally, it offers advice on bibliographic research tools, support for conducting research, and help in identifying the most appropriate bibliographic references and research sources.
The service is available both in person and remotely through consultations via Info@Biblioteca Architettura.
- Reproductions
The reproduction of articles or parts of publications for study and research purposes is permitted using the reproduction services available in the reading room or personal devices, within the limits imposed by current copyright regulations.
